Mahindra launches new R&D centre in Pune – India

Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, India’s largest carmaker today inaugurated its two-wheeler research and development centre at Pune – India.

The company has invested Rs.100 crore in setting up the R&D facility for its two-wheeler business.
The Pune research and development centre was inaugurated by Anand Mahindra and is the third largest two-wheeler R&D facility in India and houses 175 engineers and designers.

Mahindra said, the company will invest Rs 500 crore over the next five years in R&D for its two-wheeler business. The company has lined up four new products, which includes Rodeo RZ, a revamped 110 cc motorcycle Stallio, which the company withdrew from the market 18 months ago, a 300 cc premium motorcycle Mojo and yet another motorcycle during FY-13.

    “The two-wheeler industry is a growing industry and we are targeting a revenue of Rs20,000 crore by 2020,” said Anand Mahindra, vice chairman and managing director, about the business that is run under Mahindra 2 Wheelers.

    “The Mahindra Two Wheelers R&D Centre will provide us with the dual benefits of indigenous design at lower costs and shortened product development lifecycles. These two tangible benefits, when coupled with a considerably shortened go-to-market strategy with newer and more technologically superior products, augurs well for the future of the business.”
