Airtel 2012- Fire blacks out Airtel network, again
Around 36 lakh customers of Bharti Airtel across the state’s western region woke up to a network outage on Tuesday. The services of the telecom company were disrupted after a fire — the second in three years — broke out in its data centre at Malad around 2.30am.No one was injured in the mishap.
Apart from voice calling service, data facilities such as GPRS, 3G and CDMA were hit. Voice calling service had partially started by evening. BlackBerry customers in Mumbai too were affected. The fire officials said short-circuit could be the cause of the fire.
The fire broke out on the fourth floor of the seven-storey building. The blaze broke out in the 2,000sqm-server room, damaging the entire electrical installation. “The wiring on the wall and the ceiling, all the electrical installations and cables were damaged,” said a senior fire official.
Although the fire was a minor one, it took the fire department around six hours to douse it. “The inbuilt gas separation system was not functional so we could not find the source of fire. The equipment automatically switches on at the time of fire and separates smoke,” the official added.
The fire rescue operation was completed at 7.08am.
“Employees were working at the Business Processing Outsourcing unit and around a thousand people were in the building when the fire broke out. We rescued all of them,” said HN Muzawar, chief fire officer.
However till late evening, Airtel customers were grappling with network woes. Angry customers flooded Airtel’s official website on Tweeter with their critical remarks.
Airtel customer Anish Garg was out of town and his work was stuck due to connectivity problem. “I was expecting an important call from work. I wasn’t left with any option but to get a new telecom connection,” said Garg.
Airtel spokesperson couldn’t say when the services would be resumed.
“Mobile voice, BlackBerry and SMS services have largely been restored and are stabilising. We are working towards restoring 2G & 3G data services later tonight. However, for the enterprise services such as IPLC, leased lines, MPLS and Internet services, restoration work is in progress and services are likely to be restored in the next 24 hours,” said Airtel.
This is for the second time in three years that Airtel services were hit due to fire. In July 2008, a fire broke out at Airtel’s office at Peninsula tower. It had taken the company a month to rectify the network snag.

India Forex- Economy will return to high growth path
Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee said on Tuesday that the Indian economy will soon revert to the higher growth trajectory and the present downturn is only temporary.
The Indian economy has been hit hard by the slowdown in Europe and the United States, stubborn inflation and high interest rates. Industrial growth has slowed, while overall GDP growth in the current fiscal year is expected to be around 7.5%, lower than the previous estimate of 9% and above.
Addressing the fourth meeting of the consultative committee attached to his ministry, Mukherjee also said instructions have been issued to all ministries and departments to adhere to their expenditure ceilings. The finance ministry is keeping a close watch on spending by ministries and departments as it battles to curb wasteful expenditure. The government has said it would be difficult to meet the fiscal deficit target of 4.6% of gross domestic product in the current fiscal year due to the slowdown and fresh spending commitments and subsidies.
Members of the panel said there must be a credible and strong path of fiscal consolidation. They said that some key sectors like power, civil aviation, health, infrastructure and telecom need priority and higher investment but cautioned that necessary checks should be in place to ensure that funds are not mis-utilized. FM said the world economy is going through turbulent times. He said that due to the euro-zone crisis, downturn in external demand had hurt exports. The finance minister said the currency volatility and current account deficit among others have also impacted the economy.
"It was, however, reassuring to note that the pause in the Indian growth story was brief," Mukherjee told the panel. He said food inflation has eased to 1.8% and there is moderation in inflation in general. He said the savings rate had also gone up which augurs well for the economy.
Some members suggested that there was a need to bring FDI to give justice to farmers and said the union government should arrive at a proper mechanism in close coordination with state governments. The government had allowed 51% foreign direct investment in the multi-brand retail sector and had paved the way for entry of global retailers such as Wal-Mart and Carrefour into the sector but had to put on hold its decision in the face of stiff opposition from opposition parties and some of its allies.
Some members said efforts should be made to stop the migration of agricultural labourers from villages to cities. In order to achieve this, setting-up of agrarian industries in rural areas should be encouraged. Some members stated that efforts should be made to reduce agriculture's dependence on rain and enough incentives should be given to produce oil seeds and pulses indigenously. They also said that credit to the agriculture sector should also be increased and cash subsidy should be given directly to the beneficiaries.
Lokpal in RS on Thursday, notice to Congress MPs
The Lokpal Bill may be taken up in Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
Sources have said that show cause notices have been served to the Congress MPs who were absent on Tuesday during the voting of Constitution Amendment Bill.
Lok Sabha Passes Lokpal Bill
The Lokpal Bill has been passed by the Lok Sabha on Tuesday even as the Left Front, Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party staged a walk out.
Before the Lokpal Bill as put to vote the Government amended Section 24, the provision to keep armed forces under its ambit, the state government will decide on the Lokayuktas, and the requirement of three-fourth members of Lokpal to approve inquiry against the Prime Minister was changed to two-third.
Section 24 had given the right to Speaker of the Lok Sabha and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha to take action against MPs even if the trial by the Lokpal was on.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) abstained from voting on the amendment moved by Basudeb Acharia on bringing corporate houses and the act of the Prime Minister signing commercial agreements under the Lokpal.
Just before the voting started the Samajwadi Party and the BSP MPs walked out of the Lok Sabha.
"We could not have gone with the BJP, so we walked out," said Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Since our amendments were not accepted, we walked out," said BSP MP Dara Singh Chauhan.

The Dirty Picture - Vidya’s talent needs no name
Ekta Kapoor, the producer of ‘The Dirty Picture’, called movie’s heroine Vidya Balan as Vidya Balan Khan. Apparently, she said this as the actress had carried the movie on her shoulders as only the Bollywood Khans are capable of doing it. No sooner, Shah Rukh Khan heard it than he reacted. The super actor said, "If Vidya Balan gets married to me, I won't mind to putting her surname after my name”. Praising the hard work as well as the talent of Vidya Balan, the badshah of the tinsel time said, "Talent, hard work has no name. Success has no name. Vidya has achieved what she has because of her talent. Why should we give her any names to add to hers? Why should we call her Khan?"
SRK is right indeed, as Vidya Balan has shown her talent and guts by playing a new and sexy avatar without any inhibition. It is being wondered in industry circles if any other actress, including those who are known as bold and sexy, could act as Vidya has done in ‘The Dirty Picture’. It’s not without any reason that most of the present day girls have showered all kind of praise on Vidya Balan who was until now known for her the next-door girl image only.

Dr.Bhimrao Ambedkar
Dr.Bhimrao Ambedkar was born on 14th April, 1891 in Mahu Cantt in Madhya Pradesh. He was the fourteenth child of his parents.
The life of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar was marked by struggles but he proved that every hurdle in life can be surmounted with talent and firm determination. The biggest barrier in his life was the caste system adopted by the Hindu society according to which the family he was born in was considered 'untouchable'.
In the year 1908, young Bhimrao passed the Matriculation examination from Bombay University with flying colours. Four years later he graduated in Political Science and Economics from Bombay University and got a job in Baroda. Around the same time his father passed away. Although he was going through a bad time, Bhimrao decided to accept the opportunity to go to USA for further studies at Columbia University for which he was awarded a scholarship by the Maharaja of Baroda. Bhimrao remained abroad from 1913 to 1917 and again from 1920 to 1923. During this period he had established himself as an eminent intellectual. Columbia University had awarded him the PhD for his thesis, which was later published in a book form under the title "The Evolution of Provincial Finance in British India". But his first published article was "Castes in India - Their Mechanism, Genesis and Development". During his sojourn in London from 1920 to 1923, he also completed his thesis titled "The Problem of the Rupee” for which he was awarded the degree of DSc. Before his departure for London he had taught at a College in Bombay and also brought out Marathi weekly whose title was 'Mook Nayak' (meaning 'Dumb Hero').
By the time he returned to India in April 1923, Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar had equipped himself fully to wage war against the practice of untouchability on behalf of the untouchable and the downtrodden. Meanwhile the political situation in India had undergone substantial changes and the freedom struggle in the country had made significant progress.
While Bhimrao was an ardent patriot on one hand, he was the saviour of the oppressed, women and poor on the other. He fought for them throughout his life. In 1923, he set up the 'Bahishkrit Hitkarini Sabha’ (Outcastes Welfare Association), which was devoted to spreading education and culture amongst the downtrodden, improving the economic status and raising matters concerning their problems in the proper forums to focus attention on them and finding solutions to the same.
The problems of the downtrodden were centuries old and difficult to overcome. Their entry into temples was forbidden. They could not draw water from public wells and ponds. Their admission in schools was prohibited. In 1927, he led the Mahad March at the Chowdar Tank at Colaba, near Bombay, to give the untouchables the right to draw water from the public tank where he burnt copies of the 'Manusmriti' publicly. This marked the beginning of the anti-caste and ant-priest movement. The temple entry movement launched by Dr. Ambedkar in 1930 at Kalaram temple, Nasik is another landmark in the struggle for human rights and social justice.
In the meantime, Ramsay McDonald announced the 'Communal Award' as a result of which in several communities including the 'depressed classes' were given the right to have separate electorates. This was a part of the overall design of the British to divide and rule. Gandhiji wanted to defeat this design and went on a fast unto death to oppose it. On 24th September 1932, Dr. Ambedkar and Gandhiji reached an understanding, which became the famous Poona Pact. According to this Pact, in addition to the agreement on electoral constituencies, reservations were provided for untouchables in Government jobs and legislative assemblies. The provision of separate electorate was dispensed with. The Pact carved out a clear and definite position for the downtrodden on the political scene of the country. It opened up opportunities of education and government service for them and also gave them a right to vote.
Dr. Ambedkar attended all the three Round Table Conferences in London and each time, forcefully projected his views in the interest of the 'untouchable'. He exhorted the downtrodden sections to raise their living standards and to acquire as much political power as possible. He was of the view that there was no future for untouchables in the Hindu religion and they should change their religion if need be. In 1935, he publicly proclaimed," I was born a Hindu because I had no control over this but I shall not die a Hindu”
After a while Dr. Ambedkar, organised the Independent Labour Party, participated in the provincial elections and was elected to the Bombay Legislative Assembly. During these days he stressed the need for abolition of the 'Jagirdari' system, pleaded for workers’ Fight to strike and addressed a large number of meetings and conferences in Bombay Presidency. In 1939, during the Second World War, he called upon Indians to join the Army in large numbers to defeat Nazism, which he said, was another name for Fascism.
In 1947, when India became independent, the first Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, invited Dr. Ambedkar, who had been elected as a Member of the Constituent Assembly from Bengal, to join his Cabinet as a Law Minister. Dr. Ambedkar had differences of opinion with the Government over the Hindu Code Bill, which led to his resignation as Law Minister.
The Constituent Assembly entrusted the job of drafting the Constitution to a committee and Dr. Ambedkar was elected as Chairman of this Drafting Committee. While he was busy with drafting the Constitution, India faced several crises. The country saw partition and Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated.
In the beginning of 1948, Dr. Ambedkar completed the draft of the Constitution and presented it in the Constituent Assembly. In November 1949, this draft was adopted with very few amendments. Many provisions have been made in the Constitution to ensure social justice for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and backward classes.
Dr. Ambedkar was of the opinion that traditional religious values should be given up and new ideas adopted. He laid special emphasis on dignity, unity, freedom and rights for all citizens as enshrined in the Constitution.
Ambedkar advocated democracy in every field: social, economic and political. For him social Justice meant maximum happiness to the maximum number of people.
On 24 May 1956, on the occasion of Buddha Jayanti, he declared in Bombay, that he would adopt Buddhism in October. On 0ctober 14, 1956 he embraced Buddhism along with many of his followers. The same year he completed his last writing 'Buddha and His Dharma'.

The Kult of Kolaveri |
Sony Music, India has created a viral phenomenon, the likes of which have never before been seen in India for the Tanglish musical hit ‘Why this Kolaveri Di‘. In just two weeks the song has become an anthem in India and has crossed over the international markets. Having reached: +15 million You Tube Streams, +3.6 million Facebook shares, the #kolaveri hash tag on Twitter trending with tweets from media watchers, journalists, fans, industry barons, Celebrities, and pretty much everyone. The music is composed by an 21-year-old prodigal talent Anirudh. Sung by the actor and lyricist of the song Dhanush, ‘Why This Kolaveri Di’ is genre bending with comical lyrics that adds to its popularity.
It is the first regional language (Tamil) song ever to see a high rotation on Mainstream Music Channels, and get play listed on 43 Radio Stations Pan India. It is safe to say that the entire nation has joined the Kult of Kolaveri all in the span of 10 days! The official soundtrack release is in the first week of December 2011 while the film ’3′ will release in mid-January 2012.
~Simplicity, the power of the internet and connecting with fans~
Here’s all the talking around it:
“We believed in our creativity and when we sat with the Sony Music team they saw the true potential in it. Our creativity and their vision has led to the song exploding globally. We are proud to be associated with a team and an international brand like them as we see the true value they bring to music”, says Anirudh the 21-year-old Music Director.
The simplicity and originality of the melody, lyrics and real to life video has attracted people world over to the song. It’s no longer just a song, it’s a catchphrase and has entered the national lexicon…association with this song has become a status symbol of belonging’. It’s almost like if you have not heard the song, you are just not with it. Dhanush the actor, singer and the lyricist of the song adds on, “I am not a singer but Sony Music’s perseverance to ride on this same fact and give it a real feel is what I think has made it work.”
Shridhar Subramaniam, President India and Middle East Sony Music Entertainment and the mind behind creating the viral rage adds, “There is a change in the music landscape that we all are witnessing today. Regional Music has huge acceptability- growing at the rate of 20% per annum and regional advertisements are becoming national and today the success of our song ‘Why this Kolaveri Di’ is an endorsement to this phenomena. We have been a part of the change since 2008 when we entered the Tamil Music market and today enjoy a 60% market share. Our outlook and strategy has been to expand in this market and our recent foray in the Punjabi Music Market is another such step.”
“Now, it has been our conscious effort to long tail ‘Why this Kolaveri Di’ concept by creating official dance mixes of the song, exploiting publishing and distributing the same. We want to keep it fresh, buzzing and alive till each person world over has seen/heard it.”
